Liverpool are being linked ever more strongly with PSG's Ibrahim Mbaye, and this is a player Liverpool supporters should really start keeping an eye on.

Mbaye is only 18, but has already played senior football for Paris Saint-Germain, Champions League football and at the World Cup for Senegal. He was born on 24 January 2008 and plays mainly as a right winger, but can operate on either side of the attack.

He made his first Ligue 1 start for PSG at just 16, becoming the youngest player in the club's history to start a league match – younger than Warren Zaïre-Emery was when he set the previous record.

In 2025/26, he was given increasing responsibility at PSG, making appearances both as a starter and as a substitute. UEFA also listed him in PSG's Champions League squad as an 18-year-old.

Then came his real breakthrough on the international stage.

Mbaye previously played youth international football for France and was among the players who won the prestigious Montaigu Tournament with France Under-16s in 2024. He later chose to represent Senegal at senior level.

And his progress was extremely rapid.

He became an African champion with Senegal at 17 and was described by FIFA as a player who had really made his mark during the tournament.

During the 2026 World Cup, even more people began to take notice of him.

Against France, Mbaye scored Senegal's goal in the 3–1 game – on his World Cup debut. FIFA then highlighted him as one of the young players worth watching particularly closely at the tournament.

It is quite extraordinary to think about: And he still has enormous scope for development.

WHAT KIND OF PLAYER IS HE?

Mbaye wants the ball, runs directly at defenders and tries to unsettle them. It is precisely this combination of pace, technique, unpredictability and an extremely young age that has so many top clubs tracking him.

AS recently described him as one of Europe's most sought-after young players, with interest reported from Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa, among others.

WHY LIVERPOOL?

This is perhaps where the rumour becomes particularly interesting.

Liverpool need long-term quality on the wings, and Mbaye has a profile that is very well suited to the Premier League: pace, directness, one-on-one ability and the capacity to attack open spaces.

The Times recently reported that Liverpool have explored a transfer and that Mbaye is said to be open to a move to Anfield. A transfer fee of around €40–50 million has been mentioned.

Several reports on 17 August now also claim that Liverpool and Mbaye have agreed personal terms on a five-year contract. It is important to stress that these remain reports for now – no transfer has been officially confirmed by the clubs.

The situation at PSG also makes this an interesting story.

Mbaye is competing for minutes in an attack full of world-class players and established stars. That means one of Europe's biggest talents could potentially be available if he believes the route to regular first-team football is better elsewhere.

And that is precisely why this could be an extremely exciting signing for Liverpool.
