What does this mean for the season?

Manchester City and Tottenham have rebuilt their teams more than anyone else, and both have taken on the risks that come with bringing in so many new players at once. Liverpool are in the opposite position: the club lost three pillars of the team on free transfers and have staked everything on Bradley Barcola filling the void left by Salah.

For promoted clubs Coventry, Hull and Ipswich, the summer was about volume. Between them, they brought in more than forty players. Historically, that alone has rarely been enough – but none of them can be accused of holding back.

This overview is based on ESPN's compilation of confirmed transfers as of 2 September 2026.
